Hello to Spring! I know everyone is starting to feel that warm beautiful feeling of spring. The grass is trying hard to turn green. Its starting to be the perfect time for us to start shooting engagements and bridals again. So give me a call. April is almost completely filled up so lets try to figure out all the dates for March. June is still nice but it starts to get a little hotter. And July and August, lets just not talk about that! I do not want to have to photoshop off a red face and sweat beads. So let me know as soon as you can for the best spots. I don't shoot on weekends or Tuesday nights so they go fast! Give me a call.

This is the wedding that brought tears to my eyes and made me realize what it is to have someone who will cherish you. I must say I decided that day that I wanted to be loved like he loved her. They were high school sweethearts that were seperated for a while from each other. Many years later she contacted him and their love will still so strong and he had never found anyone like her so he never married. She had two gorgeous little girls that he loves as his own. The reason this was so close to me is that I had lost my husband in October 2007 and was sad and lonely and starting to feel myself get depressed. When I went to this wedding I prayed that night that I would have someone that would love me this way and cherish my every word and love my kids like he loved hers. Not long after that I found Scott. We were friends at first but it didn't take long to know that God had answered my prayers. I told her later when I took her baby pictures about my story. How special these two were to me. I will never forget them.

This is a preview of my wedding on November 8, 2008 to a great man, Scott Spillane. He is loved by all and I was lucky enough to marry him. I am thrilled to have such a beautiful wedding. Here are some shots. There were three photographers at my wedding. My son, Nicholas Kelley, a friend Kala Hanhour, and me. Keep an eye out for these guys, they are fantastic.
I wanted miniture wedding cakes for all those in the wedding party. They were gorgeous. Terra Cotta's made these beautiful little cakes that made the whole table look elegant and adds a wonderful touch of class. Thanks so much Dunnette. I loved having you and Jamie at our wedding. You will always be like family to me.
This cake was soooo delicious!! I loved the bow that was painted with a pearlized gloss. She did a wonderful job.

This is my little boy and Breanna sitting at my beautiful table. They were precious.

This is me and Scott dancing our first dance. I feel so protected and loved in his arms. I think I was smiling at my son and he snapped it just as I looked off. He did a fine job with my pictures.

Beth was such a large part of my wedding. She is Beth of Marilyn's Flowers and Catering. She is more than just a business associate, she is also like a family member. She helps so many of my brides on their wedding day to have a perfect day with no stress. I relied on her completely. It wouldn't have been the same. These are some of the most gorgeous bouquets I have seen. All the flowers were perfect.

I decided on my decorations from a collaboration of all the hundreds of weddings that I shot. I loved how it turned out.

I interrupt 2007 to Thank some people that mean so much to me from my wedding. Everyone said it was one of the most elegant weddings they have ever seen. I was certainly proud of how it turned out. I felt like I was in a dream.

When I came to the wedding yesterday I was greeted by a hug and a present. They almost made me cry. Jamie, Lynda and Chelsey are amazing ladies, and I love them dearly. We had a wonderful time at the wedding and wanted to thank them for this amazing jesture. I will cherish these items forever. The coolest umbrella with the handle that looks like a butter knife. It is so cute.
And this frame is sooo gorgeous. Thanks girls. You are all so sweet.

I loooove these bridals. Of course as you can tell we were running from the rain the whole day, but what amazing pictures she got. She only made this an 8x10 but then everyone say it and she sent me this email.....
After the response I've gotten from one of the pictures we printed, I think I need it a bigger size if possible. I can not explain to you the reaction I've gotten to the few people that have seen it!!!!!!! Nobody can believe how gorgeous that picture is.
She told me that some people cried when they saw it. You can see why!

New Orleans Street Car

The Hobbo Hotel was a grand success. They did really well on the auction, but will still need continued support for this little kittens. I was so honored to be part of the success. The Street Car Picture was a big hit at the Hobbo Hotel. I am so excited to say that the print went for $450.00 in the auction. I was shooting engagements that day so I wasn't able to attend, but they told me that there were some very excited buyers bidding. They started it at $100.00 so I can imagine it was a bit tense towards the end. It will be auctioned off again for charity soon. So keep your eyes open if you are interested. I have decided to limit the production to 200 copies. So far everyone that sees it in person decides to order it. It is printed on a fine metallic paper that makes it look 3D so you can't really imagine how gorgeous it is until you see it. I am anxious to see where this street car is headed.

Everyone is getting bridals done for the winter weddings, so I have been so busy getting pictures edited and printed, but I wanted to make sure I took a moment to introduce Erin and Jared. I will be donating my trolley car picture framed, and a few other items but there are so many great businesses and people participating. Come join our efforts.

This is my little boy and our new addition to our family. My little boy named him Whiskers and he is growing so fast and becoming a real part of our family. He has brought so much joy to our home. I wanted a lap cat, who would sit and let me pet him while I was working. But this little buddy decides to follow my mouse from one side of the computer to the next. Sometimes I have to look over his back to see my screen. He is starting to get interested in other things now so he doesn't do that as often, but it was so cute watching his little head bobbing around looking at my screen. My little boy loves him so much. We decided to adopt two little kittens who were brother and sister.

Please if you can get involved and save our little furry friends. If I could I would adopt them all to save their lives, but that is impossible for one person to do, so the Hobo Hotel needs your help.

Dunleith Plantation Heirlooms

I have been wanting to share these pictures I snapped at Dunleith Plantation when I shot Staci and Clay's wedding. I was in the middle of the hustle and bustle but had to pause and look carefully at these pictures. It was amazing how many great old pictures where everywhere in Natchez, Miss. It really made me almost cry when I thought of how I was going to contribute to someones lives, with memories, even when the pictures are this old and one of the most valuable thing they own. Look over these pictures and think about how they felt taking them that day. And how they were just sitting on those steps while the photographer took the pictures, and the photographer probably never really understood the contribution he was making. How large it was going to be for these people back then and now for all of us. He was probably just doing his job.

My name of my company before I changed it to Laura Kelley Photography was Heirloom Photography by Laura. I knew from the beginning that I wanted my pictures to be like these, Heirlooms that you pass to each generation. It was about capturing the memories not for today only, but it was so important to have great pictures for people to show their grandchildren.

I may have told this story before, but when I was young my aunt showed me a picture of a graduation dress she was in. It was of course a black and white photo, and the photographer, or just maybe someone in the family didn't take a closeup of the dress. She was trying so hard to explain what the dress looked like. You could tell in her mind she remembered it vividly and struggled to make sure I understood. What color blue it was, and what details it had. It had hand stitching. She loved that dress, and it was so important that I visualized the details. I knew then how important my job would be when I started photography. To capture the small things to remind the bride and also so she could show others later every detail.

For the photographers that read this, I hope you know how exciting it is for us to be in this position. For the brides that read this, remember to enjoy your wedding, your bridals. Enjoy the day, and cherish every moment. Like one of my favorite songs by Lee Ann Womack say, " I hope you Dance!!"

To think now I am part of the History of Dunleith. Amazing!

Hello everyone,
I know I have been very slow on my blogging, but I have been catching up with some work, some bookkeeping, and getting my boys back in school.
I just discovered that my 800 number was working now for about 4 to 6 months. That is always good for a business. Someone out of state calls the number and it says, "The number you have called is no longer in service" It happened when I moved, and the phone company didn't transfer all of my services. I was wondering why I couldn't forward all my calls to my cell when I left my home. But I believe by the end of this week, well maybe today, it should be up and running again. Thanks for your understanding.

Not even a storm could keep us from taking pictures that day. Look at the current in that lake. The wind could blow us down, and don't even think of using a reflector. I almost gave her a black eye while it wisped in the wind. This was so much fun though, because these two have such a genuine personality. I will truly enjoy working with them.

Allison was married this saturday, but these are some of her bridals we took months ago. Her dress was so gorgeous. The sleeves were so sweet and delicate. Her skin was complimented perfectly by the ivory cream dress. I completely loved working with her. I thought she was a sweet shy adorable young lady, and then I went to her reception and found out that she can really, really, really dance. I was in Elton, Louisiana this weekend shooting a wedding for Mallory. It was the first time we met so I was thrilled to see she was such a sweet and beautiful person. Her mother met me each time and we hit it off right away so I shouldn't be surprised that the apple didn't fall far from the tree, in the best way.

The reception was full of laughter and energy. But as I have said before, these guys towards Lafayette area must dance every weekend. There is not one person there that can't dance.

So here I go:

1. I am married for twenty years with three children, Nicholas, Nathan, (actually Nathaniel) and Christopher. Yes they had a hard time learning how to spell those long names in Kindergarden.

2. I am a wedding photographer, I guess you figured that one out, but I really really didn't want to do weddings at all at first. I would get too nervous thinking about it, but now that is all I do.

3. I am a workaholic. You will never find me sitting with nothing to do. If I watch movies, I am working and glancing.

4. I have two brothers and two sisters. One brother and One sister were adopted, and I wouldn't change that for the world. They have enriched our lives.

5. My middle name is May, my dad told me once that he named me that because I was supposed to be born in May but was born in June, but they had already decided on the name and Laura May sounded better than Laura June.

6. My maiden name was Doucet, so yes I am from Cajun Country. But I love my name Laura Kelley, that my husband gave me.

7. I was totally inspired by a photographers work named Samvel Sevada. His lighting and his images are breathtaking. The colors that he had in these few images below was breathtaking to me. I strive to have that ability to paint the canvas as he did here. http://laurakelleyphotography.com/4.JPG

8. The people I would love to see again is my grandmother and grandfather. They have both passed away, but they were such adorable people. They raised their kids to be precious, humble, and love other people. You never walk in the room with my dad, and my aunts and uncles without their being a warm and kind greeting and a smile on their face. My grandmother was very cajun but very wise. She knew about what mattered in the world and saw through all the clutter. We had wonderful talks. My grandfather once told me I looked just like his sister, and being with me made him feel like he was with the young sister again. That stuck with me for this long. I miss them both so much. I hope that I have turned out just like them. They are honorable people.

Okay, that is my story. Now I have to tag someone right? I will tag someone I met this week. She has a nickname Alabama, from me. Tawnya Hood is her real name. She looks just like Sweet home alabama girl. And I loved her the first moments we talked. reminiscing

My little boy many years ago. He is 6 now, but this is one of my favorite pictures of him.
For those who just met me, you may not know that I used to shoot a lot of childrens photography. I loved it, but the weddings became a huge part of my work and I had to cut down on everything else. I love my weddings, but it has been fun going through all my old files looking at my little ones. Here is one that made my card for a while. Her eyes are so gorgeous and she is just relaxing after a very active march around my whole studio. I caught her 2 second nap. Oh and how happy I did. These are some of my favorite little models. I get to shoot them periodically since their mom is a great friend of mine. I knew their mom when she was this age. She looks just like her.

Childrens photography fools you when you look at the pictures. There is so much activity and the picture is frozen so it looks like you have it all under control. The only one in control are the little ones. But oh what fun it is!!

Chelsey's Bridals

Chelsey was married today so finally I can show off her beautiful bridals. She is such an adorable girl, I say all the time I have all the best sweetest brides. I am doing her sisters wedding coming up so I get to work with this amazing family again. Thanks so much for everything. The wedding was gorgeous and so is Chelsey.

It has been my goal to have all my own photography in my house, but I have been so busy I haven't had a chance to even send it off. I am determined, this time to get these peices up in a frame at my house. We will see.
